A U.S. congressional committee has subpoenaed seven Major League Baseball players, including four winners of its top award, to testify about the league's steroids policy.
  
Former Most Valuable Player Award winners Sammy Sosa of the Dominican Republic, Cuban-born Jose Canseco, Jason Giambi and Frank Thomas were notified Wednesday to appear for a March 17 hearing of the House of Representatives' Government Reform Committee.  Also subpoenaed to testify were 12-time all-star Mark McGwire, four-time all-star Rafael Palmeiro and Boston Red Sox World Series hero Curt Schilling.

Although Major League Baseball has started testing players this season for steroids, lawmakers want to know if the new screening policy will be effective and perhaps if new drug and labor laws should be considered.
