Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's eldest son has been indicted in connection with a corruption investigation involving his father's 1999 political campaign.

Omri Sharon is a member of Parliament from his father's conservative Likud Party.

Israeli Justice Ministry officials said Sunday the son faces charges of violating campaign finance laws, forgery and perjury in connection with his role as manager of his father's bid for Likud Party leadership in 1999.

Omri Sharon was accused of receiving illegal campaign contributions in 1999 and 2000 and funneling the money through a false corporation. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison.

Attorneys for the younger Mr. Sharon have not commented on the charges.
