French counter-terrorism police have arrested three additional suspects in a continuing crackdown on Islamic extremists believed to have indirect ties with Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the leader of al-Qaida in Iraq.

Police also say they discovered weapons and explosives in the Paris suburb of Clichy-sous-Bois as they continued a probe into robberies and money-laundering activities used to finance planned attacks.

These latest arrests follow the detention of 25 people in a series of raids Monday.

French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy mentioned the indirect ties to al-Zarqawi Wednesday as he reported to parliament on Monday's raids.

Police say the suspects were under surveillance for several months, and that investigations are under way to determine the network's exact plans. 

France has been on high alert since July, when Islamist suicide bombers killed more than 50 people in attacks on the London transport system.
