American speed skater Shani Davis has failed in his attempt to qualify for the Olympics in both long- and short-track events.

At the U.S. short-track speed skating championships in Marquette, Michigan, Friday, Davis crashed in the semifinals of the 1,000 meters. He finished out of the top five in the point standings, and did not make the short-track Olympic team.  He still can be named later this month to the long-track team.

Olympic medalist Apolo Anton Ohno finished atop the short-track standings with 225 points. Ohno won the 500-meters and the 1,000-meters races and is sure to be a favorite in Turin.

In women's competition, 17-year-old Kim Hyo-Jung finished atop the standings with 191 points. A South Korea native, Kim earned an Olympic berth in the 500-, the 1000-, and the 1500-meters races.

Allison Baver finished second in the standings and will race in the 500-and-1000-meters races in Turin. Kimberly Derrick, Maria Garcia, and Caroline Hallisey round out the U.S. women's team.

Amy Peterson's bid to make her sixth Olympic team came up short when she failed to advance out of the 1000-meter quarterfinals. The 34-year-old Peterson won a silver medal in 1992 and two bronzes in 1994.
