Italian slider Armin Zoggeler has won a World Cup men's singles luge competition in Lake Placid, New York.

Zoggeler finished with a combined time of one minute, 47.434 seconds, nearly 0.70 seconds ahead of American Tony Benshoof.

Benshoof has qualified for the U.S. Olympic team for the Turin Games. However, snow on the Lake Placid track slowed his times Saturday.

Russia's Albert Demtschenko finished third (1:48.194) but leads the overall standings with 410 points. Zoggeler is second (244 points) with Benshoof third 325 points).

Benshoof is the only American to qualify for the Turin Games based on his World Cup performances. One of the other spots will go to Christian Niccum, who is also attempting to qualify in doubles.

Niccum and teammate Patrick Quinn finished fourth in Friday's World Cup doubles event and will race against compatriots Preston Griffal and Dan Joye Wednesday to decide the doubles team.
