Americans Win World Cup Speed Skating Races in Italy

American's Joey Cheek and Shani Davis have won men's World Cup speed skating races in Collalbo, Italy.

In the men's 500-meters, Cheek finished in 35.11 seconds - 33-100ths of one second ahead of Japan's Yuya Oikawa. Gerard van Velde of the Netherlands was third (35.57).

South Korea's Lee Kang-Seok leads the 500-meters season standings with 446 points.

In the men's 1,000-meters, Davis captured the title in one minute, 9.26 seconds. Cheek was second, just 6-100ths of one second back, with Yusuke Imai of Japan third (1:10.22). It was Davis's fifth win this season and he leads the season standings with 500 points.

In the women's races, Italian Chiara Simionato won the 500-meters (38.51 seconds). Jenny Wolf of Germany was second, 19-100ths of one second back and leads the season standings with 642 points.

In the 1,000-meters race, Olympic champion Anni Friesinger won (in 1:16.36), her fourth World Cup win this season. Friesinger is tied with American Jennifer Rodriguez for the overall lead with 400 points.
