A tour bus crash in southeastern Egypt has killed 14 Hong Kong tourists and injured 30 others.

Egypt's news agency says the bus was going at high speed and spun off a road as it headed from the Red Sea resort of Hurghada to the ancient city of Luxor.

The injured tourists and their Egyptian tour guide were taken to hospitals in Hurghada. Hospital officials say some of the tourists are in serious condition.

The tourists were on a 10-day trip organized by a Hong Kong travel agency. They left Hong Kong on Friday.

Hong Kong's government says it is sending several officials and medical staff to Egypt to assist the victims.

Road accidents are common in Egypt, and kill around 6,000 people each year.
