World energy consumption is expected to grow 71 percent between 2003 and 2030, with emissions of gases blamed for global warming, increasing at a little faster rate.

The findings were published Tuesday in a U.S. Energy Department report which says energy consumption worldwide would grow about two percent a year.

The report projects that energy consumption will grow at a slower rate, one percent a year, in developed nations where economic growth is in sectors that are not heavily dependent on energy.

The report says developing nations, which are busy building industries and economies, will boost energy consumption at a high 3.7 percent per year.

It also says carbon dioxide emissions are likely to grow "substantially" by 2030.
