Young mortar attack victim in Baghdad

It was another violent day in Iraq Wednesday, with at least 50 people killed or found dead across the country.

In one of the bloodiest incidents, eight people were killed and at least 15 wounded when mortars shells slammed into an area in Baghdad's Shi'ite stronghold of Sadr City.

The U.S. military reported the deaths of two servicemen in separate incidents. A separate statement said coalition soldiers killed 38 terrorists and wounded nine in a firefight in Baghdad Sunday.

Meanwhile, the genocide trial of Saddam Hussein resumed Wednesday. A co-defendant testified that Iraqi Kurds were spying for arch-rival Iran in 1988, as Saddam's government began a crackdown that killed tens of thousands of Kurds.

The trial was later adjourned until November 27 to give the defense time to assemble witnesses.

On Sunday, the court in a separate trial condemned Saddam to death by hanging for ordering the killing in 1982 of 148 Shi'ite villagers in Dujail.
