The U.S. military says coalition forces have killed eight terrorists and detained 25 suspected terrorists during raids targeting the group al-Qaida in Iraq in the Tigris River Valley.

A statement says the operations took place Friday and Saturday.

In one raid in the northern city of Mosul, the military says coalition forces captured a suspected senior member of al-Qaida in Iraq's media network. A separate raid involved the capture of a person believed responsible for ordering, financing and carrying out attacks east of the city of Balad.

The U.S. military also says a U.S. Marine died of non-combat-related injuries on Friday.

In other news, a group in Iraq with ties to al-Qaida, the Islamic State of Iraq, claims to have executed five captured Iraqi soldiers in a video posted on the Internet.

The authenticity of the video could not be established.

The video shows five men, blindfolded and with hands tied behind their backs, kneeling as they were shot from behind by a masked gunman.
