Benazir Bhutto arrives for election campaign rally in Rawalpindi, 27 Dec 2007

Pakistani officials have released photographs of alleged suspects, and offered a reward in last week's assassination of opposition leader Benazir Bhutto.

Two photos were published in Pakistan's biggest Urdu-language newspaper Wednesday as part of a government notice.

One picture is that of a severed head found after the shooting and suicide bomb attack on Ms. Bhutto last Thursday during a political rally in Rawalpindi.

The other photograph, taken from footage shot by a local television station, shows two men standing in the crowd at the rally. One alleged suspect is a young, clean-shaven man wearing sunglasses, a white shirt and dark suit coat. The other man, wrapped in a white shawl, is standing directly behind him.

The government notice offers a reward of $164,000 (10 million rupees) for any information about the men.

Controversy surrounds Ms. Bhutto's assassination, with Pakistan's government saying she was not killed by gunshots or by shrapnel but by hitting her head on the car's sunroof during the blast.

Ms. Bhutto's supporters in the Pakistan People's Party contends the opposition leader was shot. Her family has asked for a United Nations-led inquiry into her death.
