Dara Torres has won two events at the United States Olympic swim trials in Omaha, Nebraska to qualify as the oldest American swimmer to compete at the Games.

Torres, 41, set an American record in the women's 50-meter freestyle Sunday, touching the wall in 24.25 seconds.  That beat the record she set in Saturday's semifinals by 13-100ths of a second.  Jessica Hardy (24.82) claimed the second Olympic spot in the event.

Torres had already qualified for the Games by winning the 100-meter freestyle on Friday.

In the final race of the eight-day meet, Peter Vanderkaay was the surprise winner in the 1500 meters  (14:45.29), while U.S. record holder Larsen Jensen took the second spot.

Four American Olympic champions will travel to Beijing to defend their titles.  Michael Phelps will go for the gold in five individual events and is expected to take part in three relays.  That will give him a chance at breaking countryman Mark Spitz's 1972 record of seven gold medals at one Olympics.

Aaron Piersol will defend the 100 and 200-meter backstroke titles he won in Athens, while Natalie Coughlin will try to hold onto her title in the women's 100-meter backstroke.  Amanda Beard will defend her 200-meter breaststroke gold.

A total of nine world records were shattered during the eight-day U.S. Olympic swimming trials.
