Nearly 50 aftershocks have been recorded in California after a magnitude 5.4 earthquake shook the state on Tuesday.

The main earthquake was centered about 48 kilometers east of Los Angeles, near the Chino Hills area of San Bernardino County.  No major injuries have been reported, although the quake did damage some buildings.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake was felt in the neighboring states of Arizona and Nevada.

Workers quickly evacuated some office buildings.

Earthquakes are relatively frequent in California.
