Presidential nominees: Senator John McCain (l) and Senator Barack Obama (r)
U.S. presidential candidates Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain have agreed to appear together on September 11, the seventh anniversary of the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington.

The two campaigns issued a joint statement Saturday saying the two candidates will put aside partisan politics to honor the memory of every American who died.

Obama and McCain also both addressed an association of elderly Americans by satellite Saturday to outline their policies that affect senior citizens.

The candidates offered strategies to save the troubled Social Security system so seniors can continue to receive government-issued checks that supplement income.

McCain's vice presidential running mate, Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska delivered the campaign's weekly radio address Saturday, using it to give details on her record of reform.
