The world observes World AIDS Day each year on December 1. UNAIDS and the World Health Organization report global HIV prevalence appears to be leveling off. In 2007, they report 33 million people were estimated to be living with HIV, about 2.5 million people became newly infected and some 2.1 million people died of AIDS.
