Zimbabwean nongovernmental organisations told representatives of the International Monetary Fund that the international lender of last resort should not oblige Harare to resign its membership over debt service arrears because such an effective expulsion would widen disparities between rich and poor and risk sparking civil strife.

Information officer Fambai Ngirande of the National Association of Nongovernmental Associations told reporter Jonga Kandemiiri of VOA’s Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that his organization came away from the meeting hopeful the IMF would heed its plea.
