A researcher says the fabled Lost City of Atlantis was located in the Mediterranean Sea.

In an interview with Reuters news agency, a spokesman for U.S. mythologist and researcher Robert Sarmast says there is evidence of man-made structures under the sea between what is now Cyprus and Syria.

Mr. Sarmast's theory is that modern-day Cyrpus is the highest point of ancient Atlantis with the rest of the land mass submerged below the waters of the Mediterranean Sea.

He says he will give details of his findings Sunday.

In Greek mythology, Atlantis was a wealthy, powerful nation that became so corrupt that Zeus, the supreme ruler of all Greek gods, destroyed it.

Many theorists believe Atlantis was destroyed by a massive flood some 11,000 years ago.
