Here come the Spartans: the bloody epic 300 easily conquered U.S. box offices, grossing more than $70 million in its opening weekend.

 

 Attendance outdid the other Top 10 U.S. movies combined.

 

 It's on track to becoming the best March opening in U.S. film history, topping the $68 million tally enjoyed last year by Ice Age:The Meltdown.

 

Filled with surrealistic scenes, 300 highlights the battle of Thermopylae, in which a small force of Spartan warriors fought off a much larger Persian army in 480 B.C.
