Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan has turned herself in to police to face charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants. The charge arises from a Memorial Day hit-and-run crash which sent the 21-year-old actress into rehab.

Accompanied by her attorney, Lohan surrendered July 19 at the Beverly Hills police department, where she was fingerprinted and photographed.

Officer Brian Ballieweg said Lohan's blood alcohol exceeded California's legal limit of 0.08 percent at the time of her arrest, but would not give the exact reading. He said she also faces a misdemeanor charge of hit and run.

Lohan was released on her recognizance. A court date was scheduled for August 24.

A July 20 message to her publicist was not immediately returned.

Lohan and two other adults were in her 2005 Mercedes SL65 convertible when she lost control on May 26, crashing into a curb and shrubs on Sunset Boulevard

. Lohan got into a second car and was driven to a hospital for minor injuries. The other passengers were unhurt.

Last week, Lohan checked herself out of a rehabilitation center after more than six weeks. It was her second stint in rehab this year.
