Bill Murray may face a drunken driving charge, after cruising through downtown Stockholm in a golf cart.

Detective-Inspector Christer Holmlund of the Stockholm police said officers pulled over the Caddyshack star early on the morning of August 20.

After the 56-year-old actor refused to take an alcohol-detecting breathalzer test, a blood test was administered. He said results will take 14 days.

Murray, who had been at the Scandanavian Masters golf tournament, signed a document admitting he drove under the influence, and agreed to let a police officer plead guilty for him if the case goes to court, Holmlund said.

He said the actor-comedian would only go to trial if tests show his blood alcohol exceeded Sweden's legal limit. A high level could lead to a prison term, but Holmlund said a fine would be more likely. He said officers stopped Murray as he drove the golf cart from Cafe Opera, a Stockholm restaurant, to his hotel.

Tournament organizer Fredrik Nilsmark said the golf cart was not intended for guests, but added "I don't hold any grudges against Bill Murray borrowing our cart for a while." Murray's lawyer David Nochimson did not immediately return an e-mail seeking comment.

An early cast member of the TV show Saturday Night Live, Bill Murray received an Oscar nomination for the 2003 film Lost In Translation. His other screen credits include  Stripes, Ghostbusters, and  Rushmore.
