Aida Akl worked as a correspondent for the Voice of America in Amman, Jordan before joining VOA's Arabic Branch in Washington in 1985. She then served as a broadcaster and reporter for Radio Sawa until joining Focus in 2005.
A graduate of the Lebanese American University in Beirut, Aida studied mass communications, theater and film. She also studied English and American literature at the University of Jordan, and creative writing at the American University in Washington.
