Hermann Maier

The skier they call "The Herminator," Austrian Hermann Maier, has finally scored his second World Cup win of the season, taking the men's super-G race before his home country fans in Kitzbuehel.

Maier negotiated the famed 2,280-meter Hahnenkamm course in 1:02.97 to beat runner-up Peter Fill of Italy by only 0.05 of a second.

Austrians had the next three fastest times, with Hannes Reichelt taking the bronze medal, followed by Stephan Georgl and Klaus Kroell. American Daron Rahlves was sixth. Teammate and reigning overall champion Bode Miller slid off the course early.

This was Maier's first win since the opening giant slalom race of the season. It was his fifth victory in a super-G race at Kitzbuehel, where he also won a downhill in 2001.

The men will race the downhill Saturday, and it will also count as part of the combined, in which times will be added to those of Sunday's slalom race at Kitzbuehel.
