US Olympic Hockey Roster Announced

20 December 2005

The 23-player roster for the United States men's Olympic ice hockey team has been announced. Headlining the list is National Hockey League star Mike Modano.

The 35-year-old captain of the Dallas Stars will skate in his third straight Winter Olympics when the U.S. team takes to the ice in February in Turin, Italy. Modano helped Team USA win the silver medal at the 2002 Salt Lake City Games.

Among the notable absentees on the U.S. Olympic roster is Jeremy Roenick, a two-time Olympic player. Others named to represent the United States for a third time include NHL veterans Bill Guerin, Doug Weight and Brian Rolston.

Canada, which won the gold medal in 2002, is to announce its Olympic team on Wednesday.
