The final design for the World Trade Center memorial has been chosen. The memorial to honor those killed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks will include two pools of water and a series of pine trees.

The memorial is called Reflecting Absence and was created by designer Michael Arad, who works for New York City's Housing Authority.

The design centers around two square pools of water that represent the twin towers. According to the initial proposal, the names of all those killed in the September 11 terrorist attacks and in 1993 the World Trade Center bombing will be inscribed in random order on a wall, and a separate area will contain unidentified remains.

Some changes are expected to be made before the design is complete.

The 13 member jury chose the final memorial after months of careful deliberation. The international design contest lasted eight months and drew more than 5,000 entries.
