Democratic Party presidential candidate John Kerry has wrapped up his last-minute campaigning and cast his ballot in his hometown Boston.

Speaking to reporters after voting, Senator Kerry said the long campaign has been "an amazing journey", adding he is confident that he has "made the case for change."

Mr. Kerry started the day meeting with election volunteers in Wisconsin, telling them "this is the day America shows the world how democracy works" and promising to "take the country to a better place."

Senator Kerry also made a last-minute appeal for votes in the closely-contested state, which unlike most, allows citizens to register for the polls on election day.  He spent the last few days criss-crossing states where surveys say the election is too close to call.

The candidate's wife, Theresa Heinz Kerry, is registered to vote in Pennsylvania, and cast her ballot in that closely-contested state this Tuesday morning.
