Palestinian Officials: Arafat's Health Deteriorating

03 November 2004

Palestinian officials say Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's health has deteriorated significantly over the past 24 hours.

Mr. Arafat has been receiving emergency medical treatment at a Paris hospital since Friday.

No details about his setback were immediately available.

News of the change in his condition comes one day after Palestinian officials said Mr. Arafat had been improving.  The officials said doctors have ruled out leukemia.

Mr. Arafat had been ill for about two weeks before being airlifted to Paris.  Officials initially said he was suffering from the flu.
