25 March 2005

A senior Iraqi National Guard commander has been assassinated after attending a funeral in Baghdad.

Officials said Friday the commander was killed by gunmen after he left the service at a Baghdad mosque.  They say at least two of his sons were wounded in the attack.

Meanwhile, the U.S. military says a suicide car bomb attack at a checkpoint in Ramadi late Thursday killed 11 Iraqi police commandos and injured at least 14 others.  Wounded in the blast were 9 Iraqi policemen, two U.S. soldiers and three civilians.
