Muslim demonstrators burn American flags outside the US Embassy in London

Around 100 people have protested outside the U.S. embassy in London over reports of the desecration of the Koran.

The demonstrators Friday chanted anti-American slogans such as "kill George Bush." A Briton, Martin Mubanga who had been held at the U.S. detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, told the gathering that U.S. interrogators had thrown his copy of the Koran on the floor.

Earlier this month, the U.S. State Department said the United States found no evidence that the Koran was desecrated at U.S. detention facilities.

The announcement came after Newsweek magazine retracted a report in its May 9 issue that U.S. interrogators at Guantanamo Bay had flushed a copy of the Koran down a toilet in a bid to get terror suspects to talk.

That report sparked violent protests in several Muslim countries, including Afghanistan, that left least 17 people dead.
