Space Shuttle Landing Postponed 24 Hours

08 August 2005

The U.S. space agency has postponed landing of the space shuttle Discovery until Tuesday due to bad weather.

Cloudy conditions forced NASA flight controllers to waive both opportunities Monday for Discovery to land at its home base at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

The next suitable time for a landing in Florida will be early Tuesday. The space agency also could use alternate landing sites in California and New Mexico in the western United States.

Discovery is completing a two-week mission to the International Space Station - the first American manned spaceflight since 2003, when shuttle Columbia disintegrated during re-entry to Earth's atmosphere on February 1, 2003, killing all seven astronauts.
