Ukraine's parliament is expected to vote on President Viktor Yushchenko's choice for a new prime minister on Tuesday, but local commentators predict the nominee will not receive enough votes to be confirmed.

Nominee Yuri Yekhanurov has been Ukraine's acting prime minister since early this month when President Yushchenko dismissed the previous government amid infighting and accusations of corruption.

Political analysts say Mr. Yekhanurov will fall short by more than 20 votes of the 226 needed for confirmation despite last-minute efforts by President Yushchenko to garner support for his nominee.

Dismissed prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko and her political allies are said to be behind efforts in parliament to defeat Mr. Yekhanurov's nomination.
