Bahrain, Uzbekistan Play to 1-1 Draw in Re-Match Toward World Cup

08 October 2005

Bahrain and Uzbekistan have played to a 1-1 draw in a replay of the first match of Asia's two-leg playoff series for a chance to reach the World Cup football tournament in Germany.

The two teams played September 6 with Uzbekistan winning 1-0, but the International Football Federation ordered a replay because the referee made a technical error.

In Saturday's match, Talal Yusuf Mohamed scored for Bahrain in the 16th minute. Dynamo Kiev striker Maxim Shatskikh equalized the match just two minutes later.

The second leg is scheduled for Bahrain on Wednesday. The winner of the series plays the fourth-placed team from the North, Central American and Caribbean Region for a berth in the World Cup.
