Undercover Israeli troops have shot and killed two suspected Palestinian militants at a roadblock in the northern West Bank town of Jenin.

The Israeli army says Israeli forces had sought to arrest the suspects at a checkpoint, but opened fire when the suspects tried to run the roadblock.

One suspect was identified as a member of the militant group Islamic Jihad. The other was linked to the Fatah organization.

Israel has stepped up raids and arrests of militant suspects in the West Bank, following last month's suicide bombing that killed six Israelis in coastal Israel.

Some information for this report provided by AP and Reuters.
