More than 1,000 people have joined a line to pay final respects to civil rights activist Rosa Parks in Detroit, Michigan, the city where she last lived and where she will be buried.

Her remains lie in honor Tuesday in the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. After a funeral service on Wednesday, Mrs. Parks will be buried in Detroit's Woodlawn Cemetery.

Earlier this week, more than 30,000 people filed through the U.S. Capitol to pay their final respects to Mrs. Parks. She was the first woman ever to lie in honor underneath the dome of the Capitol's Rotunda.

Mrs. Parks' arrest for refusing to surrender her bus seat to a white man 50 years ago sparked the U.S. civil rights movement that ended legalized segregation in the United States. She died in Detroit last week at the age of 92.
