The World Food Program says it will continue supplying aid to survivors of the Indian Ocean tsunami in Indonesia and Sri Lanka until 2007.
In a statement Tuesday the WFP said the aid will be focused on the most vulnerable: children, new mothers, the elderly and displaced people.
The WFP director for Asia, Anthony Banbury, said the agency will remain active in the area until people are back on their feet and have regained the livelihoods they lost. About 1.5 million people will receive assistance.
The WFP statement said aid to the Maldives and Somalia will be phased out by the end of the year. Assistance to Burma and Thailand ended in mid 2005.
