Italian labor unions have agreed not to strike during next month's Winter Olympic Games in Turin, Italy.
The unions and the Italian government signed a deal Wednesday that averted work stoppages between January 31 and March 23. The Turin Olympics run from February 10 to the 26.
Flight attendants with Alitalia airlines had announced they planned a 24-hour strike February 10, the day of the opening ceremonies. Pilots had threatened a four-hour walkout February 9.
The truce will also ban protests in telecommunications and railways industries. Local protests outside Turin that have no impact on the Olympics will be allowed.
Last season, a small Milan television worker's union strike led to the cancellation of the giant slalom at the World Alpine skiing championships in Bormio.
