Reports say Italian police have launched a new raid on a base used by Austria's Winter Olympics team, which has been shaken by a doping scandal involving cross-country skiers.

The reports quote Austrian team members as saying the police raid took place late Monday in Turin.

The drug scandal erupted Saturday when Italian police searched another compound housing members of Austria's Olympic cross-country skiing team.

Anti-doping officials tested 10 Austrian skiers in that raid, and seized syringes and other medical equipment. Two of the skiers left Italy after being tested and were kicked off the Austrian Olympic squad.

Austrian ski coach Walter Mayer was fired after he tried to evade Italian police by fleeing across the border to Austria. He crashed his car into a police barricade about 25 kilometers inside the Austrian border and was arrested.

Austria's ski federation president, Peter Schroecksnadel says Mayer was admitted to an Austrian psychiatric hospital, after he apparently talked about committing suicide.

Austria's Olympic skiers have denied doping.
