The Olof Palme Memorial Fund in Sweden is awarding its annual prize for outstanding achievement to Burma's democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi, at a ceremony Tuesday in Stockholm.

Dr. Sein Win, a political leader of the Burmese exile community will receive the award on behalf of Aung San Suu Kyi, who is under house arrest in Burma.

In announcing its award earlier this year, the Olof Palme Memorial Fund hailed Aung San Suu Kyi's unyielding fight for democracy in her homeland.  "To peoples around the world fighting repression," the group said, she "is an important symbol of peaceful opposition to repressive power.

Aung San Suu Kyi was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 15 years ago, at another ceremony she was unable to attend.

Sweden's prime minister Goran Persson will address today's ceremony in Sweden, which also marks the 20th anniversary of the murder in Stockholm of former Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme, a crime that has never been solved.
