Pope Benedict is to travel to Poland next month, his second foreign trip since becoming pope one year ago.

The Vatican Saturday announced the pontiff will visit the homeland of his predecessor, John Paul II, from May 25 to 28.

Vatican officials say Benedict will visit the capital, Warsaw, the late pope's hometown of Wadowice, and Poland's holy shrine at Czestochowa. The German-born pope will also visit the former Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz.

John Paul visited Auschwitz in 1979 on his first trip home after being elected pope.

Last August, the Pope Benedict traveled to his own homeland, Germany.

Some information for this report was provided by AFP, AP and Reuters.
