Sudan's health ministry has reported the country's first case of bird flu, saying it has infected one man.

Health officials said Tuesday the owner of a poultry farm in the capital, Khartoum, tested positive for the deadly virus. They say chickens on his farm and a farm in nearby Jazeera state also tested positive for bird flu.

Authorities say they have already destroyed tens of thousands of birds.

Earlier Tuesday, China's health ministry confirmed that a 21-year-old man from the central province of Hubei is the latest human case of the deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu in that country.

Bird flu has killed more than 100 people since 2003, mostly in East Asia. The disease also has been detected in birds in parts of Africa, the Middle East and Europe.
