President Bush introduces U.S. Trade Representative Rob Portman as his nominee for Director of the Office of Management and Budget

President Bush has nominated U.S. Trade Representative Rob Portman as the new White House budget director.

If his appointment is confirmed by the Senate, Portman will replace the former budget director Joshua Bolten, who is the new White House chief of staff.

Portman has been the U.S. trade representative for nearly a year. He also served as a congressman from Ohio for 10 years.

As budget director, Mr. Portman will oversee the federal budget of more than $2.8 trillion. Mr. Bush said Portman "is the right man for the job." In remarks at the White House Tuesday, Mr. Bush credited Portman with re-energizing the current Doha round of talks at the World Trade Organization.

Mr. Bush has nominated deputy trade representative Susan Schwab to fill Portman's post as the trade representative.

Schwab's extensive work on world trade includes a stint in strategic corporate development at Motorola, and as a professor at the University of Maryland.
