President Bush has again defended Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld from critics who are calling for his resignation.

Mr. Bush said at the White House Tuesday, that Rumsfeld is doing a "fine" job.

Several retired generals have recently called for Rumsfeld's resignation, faulting his leadership and accusing him of making a series of major errors in the Iraq war.

On Friday, President Bush said in a statement that Rumsfeld's energetic and steady leadership is what the country needs at this critical period.

In a radio interview Monday, Rumsfeld dismissed the generals' criticism. He also said he was pleased that two retired generals have come to his defense - former Army General Tommy Franks, who executed the 2003 Iraq invasion, and former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Richard Myers.
