Osama bin Laden

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has confirmed that it is Osama bin Laden's voice on an audiotape that was released Tuesday on the Internet.

The CIA says it made that determination after a technical analysis of the tape.

In the recording, bin Laden said imprisoned terrorist Zacarias Moussaoui had nothing to do with the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States.

Bin Laden said he personally assigned what he called the "19 brothers" to carry out the attacks, referring to the 19 hijackers, and that Moussaoui was not one of them.

Moussaoui pleaded guilty to six terror conspiracy charges last year and is now serving life in prison in the United States.  During his trial, the Frenchman said he was supposed to fly a plane into the White House, but he later said he had made up that statement.

Bin Laden also said the prisoners at the U.S. detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, had no connection with the 9/11 attacks, and knew nothing about the plan, except for two people. 

Bin Laden did not reveal the two detainees he said had knowledge of the September 11 attacks.  He also said most of the prisoners at Guantanamo have no ties to al-Qaida.
