Iraqi police say a car bomb has exploded in eastern Baghdad, killing at least 66 people and wounding more than 100 others.

Authorities say the blast occurred early Saturday in a crowded market in the Shi'ite district of Sadr City.

In a separate incident, Iraqi officials say gunmen kidnapped a Sunni female member of parliament and seven of her bodyguards Saturday in Baghdad. The victim, Taiseer al-Mashhadani, is a member of the Iraqi Accordance Front, the largest parliamentary bloc of the Sunni minority community.

Officials say gunmen ambushed Mashhadani's convoy as it passed through a Shi'ite neighborhood in northern Baghdad.

It is unclear who is responsible for the kidnapping.

In other news, the U.S. military announced Saturday that a U.S. soldier in Iraq has died from a non-combat injury. The military said it is investigating.

More than 2,500 American service personnel have died in Iraq since the U.S. invasion more than 3 years ago.

Meanwhile, the U.S. military said Friday it is investigating at least three soldiers accused of raping a woman and killing her and three family members.

Authorities said the Iraqis were killed in March at their home in Mahmoudiya, south of Baghdad.

The investigation is the latest in a series of probes of U.S. troops suspected of killing civilians in Iraq.
