Spain's King Juan Carlos and Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero were among the mourners Tuesday at the first funerals for the victims of the Valencia subway crash.

Monday's accident in the eastern Spanish city killed 41 people.

Authorities say high speed caused the subway train to derail and crash into a wall near a station. The train's data recorder show it was traveling at a speed of 80 kilometers per hour. It also shows the driver may have passed out or had a seizure before the crash. He is among the dead.

Thousands of people are in Valencia for the Roman Catholic Church's World Meeting of Families starting Saturday.

The Vatican says Pope Benedict XVI is praying for the subway victims.
