The Canadian Defense Department in Ottawa says a NATO soldier killed in a weapons-related accident in southern Kandahar province was from Canada.

A NATO statement says the soldier was taking part in a routine operation at the time of the accident around midday Wednesday.  The statement ruled out enemy action.

Also Wednesday, in neighboring Zabul province, a civilian car was struck by a roadside bomb, killing a local woman driver and wounding another woman and a child.

Late Tuesday, U.S.-led coalition forces killed at least 15 Taleban insurgents after they attacked a U.S. base in eastern Nuristan province.

In northern Afghanistan, meanwhile, a NATO spokesman says Afghan security forces have regained control of the situation in Faryab province where clashes between rival warlords left at least four people dead.

Officials say the fighting between hundreds of fighters loyal to rival warlords Abdul Rashid Dostum and Abdul Malik started more than a week ago.

In the south of the country Monday, suspected Taleban rebels hanged a 70-year-old woman and her grandson in Helmand province.  Local officials say the Taleban accused the two of being government spies.

A spokesman for the U.S.-led coalition says there are many reports of Taleban militants targeting local communities in eastern Ghazni province and forcing young men to join them.
