US Warns of Likely Terror Attacks in India

11 August 2006

The U.S. Embassy in India is warning of likely terror attacks in New Delhi and Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay, in the coming days.

The embassy sent an e-mail to Americans living in India Friday about the alleged plot. It says the attacks were believed to be planned for around India's August 15 Independence Day.

The embassy urged Americans to maintain a low profile.

Indian officials have not commented on the warning or alleged terror plot.

The embassy issued the warning one day after Britain announced it had arrested several suspects in an alleged plot to blow up passenger planes flying from Britain to the United States.
