President Bush is taking part in two days of somber events to mark the fifth anniversary of the September 11th, 2001, terrorist attacks in the United States.

Sunday, he and first lady Laura Bush go to New York City to participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at the site known as "Ground Zero."

That is where the World Trade Center stood before al-Qaida used two hijacked airliners as guided missiles to bring down the twin towers.

The president and Mrs. Bush will also attend a service of prayer and remembrance at a church near the site (St. Paul's Chapel). The church was used by responders as a place to rest during the grueling recovery and cleanup efforts.

Monday, the president and first lady will take part in ceremonies at the places where the two other hijacked airliners crashed - a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and at the Pentagon just outside Washington.

Nearly 3,000 people died in the attacks five years ago.
