Hollywood movie star Angelina Jolie has established a new independent group to manage her project for forest conservation and to fight poverty in Cambodia.

The new group, called the Maddox Jolie Project, will take over work that was originally co-managed by Cambodian Vision in Development and U.S. conservation group WildAid.

The project is named after Jolie's five-year-old son, Maddox, who was adopted from Cambodia.

Cambodian Vision in Development has accused Jolie of breaking her contract, and failing to follow through on a promise to donate $1.3 million.

The new director of the Maddox Jolie Project, Stephen Bognar, says Jolie terminated her contract with Cambodia Vision last December.

He did not say why Jolie has created the new independent group.

The Cambodian government approved Jolie's project in 2003.

Some scenes from Jolie's 2001 movie, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, were shot at Cambodia's Angkor Wat temple.
