The Indianapolis Colts are now the only undefeated team in the National Football League after the Chicago Bears suffered their first loss midway through the 16-game regular season.

The Colts beat the New England Patriots 27-20 in a showdown between two of the league's top quarterbacks - the Colts' Peyton Manning and the Patriots' Tom Brady. Manning prevailed, throwing for 326 yards and two touchdowns. Brady threw an uncharacteristic four interceptions. Sunday's victory improves Indianapolis' record to 8-0. New England is 6-2.

Chicago has a record of 7-1 following its 31-13 upset loss to the lowly Miami Dolphins, who won just their second game this season. Ronnie Brown rushed for a career-high 157 yards to lead the visiting Dolphins.

The Washington Redskins won an emotional game against their long-time rival Dallas Cowboys, 22-19. Kicker Nick Novak booted a 47-yard field goal with no time remaining to lift the host Redskins.

In other games, the Denver Broncos held off the Pittsburgh Steelers, 31-20. The San Diego Chargers were 32-25 winners over the Cleveland Browns. The Baltimore Ravens got past the Cincinnati Bengals, 26-20. The New York Giants avoided an upset against the Houston Texans, 14-10.

Elsewhere in the NFL Sunday, the Detroit Lions downed the Atlanta Falcons 30-14.  The New Orleans Saints upended the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 31-14.  The San Francisco 49ers got by the Minnesota Vikings, 9-3.  The Kansas City Chiefs  thumpted the St. Louis Rams, 31-17.  The Jacksonville Jaguars crushed the Tennessee Titans, 37- 7.  The Buffalo Bills defeated the Green Bay Packers, 24-10.

The Oakland Raiders travel to Seattle to take on the Seahawks in the weekly Monday Night game.
