College Football: USC Beats Notre Dame

In U.S. college football, number three Southern California routed number six Notre Dame 44-24 in a victory that could lead to the Trojans playing Ohio State for the national championship.

Southern California quarterback John David Booty threw three touchdown passes to Dwayne Jarrett in Saturday's home-field victory over the Fighting Irish.

A USC win over UCLA next Saturday would likely put the Trojans in the January 8 national title game in Arizona.

Top-ranked and undefeated Ohio State clinched a spot in the championship game a week ago by edging second ranked Michigan, 42-39)

In an upset Saturday, South Florida stunned number seven West Virginia 24-19. Bulls' quarterback Matt Grothe threw one touchdown and ran for another to lead South Florida on the road.

In other top-ten action, number four Florida beat Florida State 21-14, and number eight Louisville trounced Pittsburgh 48-24.
